Health Care Affordability and Accessibility

Heather’s twin sons were born 16 weeks premature, on the cusp of viability. They spent four months in the NICU at Children’s Hospital. Her family deeply understands the importance of affordable, accessible health care.

As a mental health professional, Heather knows firsthand how devastating the opioid crisis has hit across the State and how urgent the need is to provide resources to those struggling with mental illness.

With this experience, at the State Capitol Heather will:

  • Support Governor Dayton’s fiscally responsible proposal to offer MinnesotaCare as an option for the small number of Minnesotans who buy their own coverage. She believes this should be combined with increased reimbursement for primary care providers to increase access to cost-effective, preventive care.
  • Expand Edina’s leadership on Tobacco 21 to enact similar legislation on a statewide basis to ensure that Minnesota’s youth can avoid the lifelong devastating effects of tobacco and nicotine addiction.
  • Work with local public health officials, first responders, and law enforcement to enact comprehensive, opioid overdose reduction legislation.
  • Continue to champion and protect women's reproductive rights and access to care in the state of Minnesota.
